Thought Lines
by Kate Aspinall

Each of these drawings and mixed medias was created as part of the project, 'Thought Lines,' which opened last spring at the Space gallery in Denver. They meditate on the construction of line - literally the 'construction' of the simple into the complex or the unwinding of the complex into something as beautifully compact as writing. Red lines, red dots, red apples represent thoughts, consciousness and the impulse towards the re-weaving or unwinding the world, which is also my personal reflection on the impulse expressed in my own deep love of drawing. From our current comfort with all things represented and re-represented to the iconic parable of Adam and Eve biting the apple and that metaphoric awakening of recorded tradition, these drawings seek to tease out how we as people process our own consciousness of our place in time as the base of recorded culture.
